Ask HN: Has Anyone Used Adamcad Yet?
I saw a compelling video from Make: about this new generative AI cad tool (https://www.adamcad.com/) from YC. It looks like it has possibilities but you have to pay to get even one model generated, which is fairly useless in my opinion. Has anyone tried it and seen if it's useful or not?
Not used it, but I doubt its a one prompt and your finished workflow.
Words seem to suck at describing 3d objects, especially complex ones. Its why free body diagram and blueprints with specific measurements are needed for machinists and for redrawing lost cad parts.
Im skeptical AI has tackled CAD, or that it can handle the full workload of say designing a MEMS device or stress analysis of your part and optimization for stress loads.
These are all tasks a 3D designer/engineer will handle.
Why would it matter if it's a one shot prompt to complete CAD?
I experimented with asking ChatGPT to give me python scripts to run directly as FreeCAD macros and it does OK. There is potential there.
its pretty sick
