I am an amateur digital archivist among other hobbies. Not too long ago, I was gifted this VHS tape with a cool story behind it, so I could preserve it for the owner.
This VHS tape contained a commercial on it which the owner of the tape was cast in. We knew some rough information from his memory at the time, nearly 30 years ago, but we didn't exactly know what we had.
After posting the first attempt at a capture and gaining some attention, we were able to fill in the missing history of this tape. People on Facebook especially were very helpful in continuing tracking down the source of this tape.
In the end we discovered we had the source of a lost E3 1999 promotion as well as what would have been shown in Toys R Us at Nintendo kiosks.
It's a cool story, hope you enjoy, and please, preserve media!
